Get to Know the PH Water Meter

Chemically, the pH value is used to indicate the acidity of a solution. To find out, it takes a pH gauge which is commonly called a pH meter. The pH meter works by dipping it in solution. The results of the acidity will appear in the form of numbers between 0-14. To find out how this pH meter works, let's look at the review below!

What is pH Water?

pH is a measure of the acidity or base of a solution. The results of pH measurements reveal a large number of hydronium ions. The size is visualized on a logarithmic scale of numbers 0-14, where number 7 shows a neutral pH. Meanwhile, the results of measurements that show figures below 7 indicate that the water is acidic. Conversely, the measurement results that show a number greater than 7 means that the water is alkaline.

In industry, measuring and knowing the acidity of water is very important. Because in Indonesia itself has implemented laws that regulate the range of pH levels of water that is safe for consumption or discharged into the environment so as not to pollute the surrounding ecosystem. Water pH which is categorized as safe in Indonesia is in the 6-9 range. Apart from those in the range, water must not be discharged into the environment because it risks polluting the others.

Various Kinds of Water pH Measuring Devices

Considering the importance of calculating the acidity of a solution, there are now many water pH gauges available for use in the industry. This water pH meter can be used to see the acidity of waste solutions and other liquids involved in the production process. Here are some water acidity gauges ranging from the simplest to the most sophisticated.

1. Litmus paper

Litmus paper is the simplest water pH meter you can use. This paper is divided into two colors; red and blue to indicate the acidity of a solution. Blue litmus indicates alkaline conditions, while red litmus indicates acidic conditions. You can dip the litmus in water to measure the pH. Lack of litmus paper is the absence of specific numbers that indicate the level of acidity.

2. Digital pH Meter

A more modern measuring device is called a digital pH meter, with a small size that is lightweight so easy to carry anywhere. Named digital because this measuring instrument shows the results of pH calculations in digital form. You can immediately see the acidity level when the digital pH meter is dipped in liquid. However, the drawback is that this tool sometimes shows an unstable pH reading.

3. pH Meter On-Site

If a digital pH meter can be easily carried anywhere, then a pH meter on site is a type of acidity gauge that is placed on a particular device or on a tank permanently. The point is to measure the acidity of the solution in the tank periodically and continuously. The drawback is that you have to have many of these gauges if there are many containers of solution that you want to calculate the pH.

4. Portable pH Meter

Portable pH meters are actually similar to digital ones because they show accurate measurement results and tools that are easy to carry anywhere. The difference, this portable pH meter is more sophisticated because it can be connected to an existing micro-USB for data transfer to a computer. This tool also has the ability to measure pH accurately with the presence of analog and digital Intelligent Sensor Management.

If you are interested in having a portable water pH meter, then you can use Mettler Toledo. This product can be found at Hyprowira. Mettler Toledo is very reliable and accurate in measurements with a real-time diagnosis that ensures the sensor works during measurement. Very easy to use in an industrial environment because it can be operated with one hand and already has protection from impact.
