Flash point is the lowest temperature at which a liquid can give off vapors to form a flammable mixture in air close to the surface of the liquid and produce a flame when the vapor encounters a ignition source. Flash point is the property of the lubricant used for storage procedures to be safe from fire hazards. The higher the flash point of a petroleum product, the safer it is to use and store.
Fire Point is a condition where the flame lasts for a minimum of 5 seconds after the flash point occurs.
Flash point & fire point testing can use the ASTM D 92 method, the value of flash point & fire point is expressed in units of °C.
